By the way, Yeh kiski shadi par aye hain hum....???

What is that one word that gives jitters to most of us out there...whether married already, committed or single...
"marriage"
But well thats not what i'm gonna discuss here....What i believe that marriage is a solemn and sacred institution...a celebration of two uniting souls who pledge to spend the rest of their lives together...but these days its more like a celebration of the entire neighborhood...an unnecessary extravaganza including a ten thousand people...half of whom the bride and the groom don't even recognize!!!....The kind of moolah that we absolutely drain away in the name of a wedding might as well be put to some better use than spending 80% of it on people instead of the couple and the family. To me it feels as if we find a wedding an excuse to show off all our wealth in a span of 1 day. And as if that wasn't enough....a mere 5 hour wedding has transformed into week and fortnight-long sessions of food, drink and dance....all at the cost of the life long earnings of the families involved. The point I'm trying to make is...What is the use of this entire process??...Its not like if you have 5 functions before the wedding the couple will be blessed five times over...or is it ???...Its only the 6-7 hour "pheras" that would still be the defining moment...and trust me...no-one but the next of the kin is present there.....so why do we still bother gathering the crowd??
We, as Indians, have managed to find short cuts for every possible thing....But it seems that we simply love to sssttttttrrrreeeettttccccchhhh our Weddings....
Someday...maybe....We all will wake up to sensibilty, practicality and the sacred and cultural vaule of the "Big Fat Indain Wedding" legacy.

DISCLAIMER: For all those getting married within the next few months, Please DO NOT change your preset wedding plans after reading this, lest your parents(who have already funded the entire program) find out the cause of your sudden awakening and plan to kill me!!!!
